The island of Lefkada is the fourth largest in the Ionian Islands group and its capital is the city of Lefkada.
The largest settlements on the island are the capital Lefkada, Nidri and Vasiliki (the ports from which ferries depart for the islands of Meganisi and Kefalonia). The population of the island is mainly engaged in agriculture (production of olive oil and wine), animal husbandry and tourism.
What sets it apart from other islands is the mountainous terrain and evergreen vegetation.
Some of the more famous beaches are Porto Katsiki, Egremni and Katizma. The island is easily accessible by asphalt road, not having to use a ferry.
Windsurfing, kitesurfing, scuba diving, mountain biking, sailing around the surrounding isles - those are one of many activities that one of the most beautiful Ionian islands offers.
