The Evangelical City Church "St. Dionysus' in the Gothic style is the only building in Esslingen that remains from the Renaissance. Its construction began in the 14th century, on the site of an older church from the beginning of the 8th century. The church is located on the north side of the Marktplatz square and together with the Catholic church "St. Paul" and the church "Frauenkirche" (St. Virgin Mary) form an architectural ensemble that forms the appearance of the city.
