
Zermatt is a village in Switzerland, canton Valais. The tourist village is located close to the border with Italy and is one of the most famous winter resorts, not only in Switzerland, but also on a global scale. The Materwispa River flows through Zermatt, which feeds the Gorner Glacier. The whole is located at 1608 m above sea level. The permanent resident population is about 6,000 inhabitants.
Around Zermatt are most of the four-thousanders of the Alps, including Dufur and the Matterhorn. Zermatt is connected to the Gornergrat ridge via a railway that climbs to 1,500 m above sea level.
Cars are prohibited in Zermatt. Residents and guests can only move here with electric cars, and the nearest place where buses and cars are parked is the railway station in the village of Tesh.
