Freiburg is the southernmost large city in Germany, located in the Black Forest, along the banks of the Dreisam River. The unusual attraction of the city is the small water canals "Bächle" (Bächle) that run through the center of the city, which provide coolness during the warm summer days. Freiburg Cathedral is one of the impressive old buildings. Münsterplatz - the largest square in the city - stretches around it. Of interest is the historic Kaufhaus building, which dates back to 1532, with a dark red facade and towers covered with patterned roof tiles.
