The Fountain of Neptune is located in the northern part of Piazza Navona in Rome. It was designed in 1574 by Giacomo della Porta. From its construction until 1878, it consisted of the lower pool and its upper part, without any figures. It was then known as the Teapot Makers' Fountain, because it was near their street. Then there is the statue of Neptune fighting an octopus. A little later, in the 19th century, Antonio della Bita and Gregorio Zappala added the figures of eight sea creatures to fit in with the rest of the fountains in the square.
