At the request of Napoleon, in 1806, the construction of the Arc de Triomphe in honor of the Grand Army began, which was completed in 1836. It is 50 m high and 45 m wide. The columns of the arch are decorated with huge bas-reliefs, depicting the march of the volunteers in 1792 Napoleon's major victories are sealed on the upper bas-reliefs. Under the arch from 1920 is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, above which an eternal flame burns.
