Tehuantepec is a landmark in Mexico. This is the shortest path between the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean, the shortest distance along it between the two water basins is 200 km. It was the main route before the opening of the Panama Canal. Its name comes from the city of Santo Domingo Tehuantepec in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, which is located in the landmark's territory. Santo Domingo Tehuantepec is the second most populous city in the area.
