The Sirmione Fortress, also known as "Sirmione Castle" or "Rocca Scaliger", is located close to the shores of Lake Garda, Sirmione. The construction of the fortress began in 1277 by Mastino della Scala. It is based in a strategic place, at the entrance to the peninsula, surrounded by a moat. In the past, access was possible only by a drawbridge, which has now been replaced by a road. For a long time, the fortress functioned as a military fortress against enemies. In the central part there is a museum, in which there are remains of the Roman era and medieval artefacts.
