
Tarragona, with a population of 140,000, is located in southern Catalonia. The city is the successor of the Roman Tarako, founded in the 3rd century BC. and capital of Roman Spain, capital of the province of Middle Spain. Today, Tarragona is one of the cities in Spain with the most preserved Roman monuments. The following stand out among them: the amphitheater (1st century), the Roman forum in the Upper part of the old town and the circus, where chariot races were held. Of the later centuries, the Roman-Gothic Cathedral of Santa Maria from the 12th century stands out.
