San Marino is the capital of the republic of the same name, located on the Apennine Peninsula near the Adriatic Sea. The population of the city is about 4,200 inhabitants. San Marino is the third largest city in the Republic. It was founded by San Marino in 301. The main economic activities of the city are stone mining, trade in stamps and coins, wood carving. Interesting objects are: the fortress with the three towers, the Basilica of San Marino, the wax museum and "Liberta" square. San Marino is a popular tourist center. It is visited annually by more than 3 million inhabitants, of whom 85% are Italians.
