
Piazza delle aCisterna is a square in the center of the old town of San Gimignano. It is named after the octagonal stone well located in the central part of the square. Piazza de la Cisterna was built in 1273 and subsequently expanded in 1346. The square has a triangular shape with a slight natural slope. It is connected by an open passage with another square - Piazza del Duomo. The sidewalk is made of triangular bricks. In the past, many shops, workshops and restaurants were located here. Today, houses and towers from the 12th-14th centuries can be seen on the square.
