The Parliament building, which is a symbol of the Hungarian capital, was built between 1880 and 1902. The alluvial slab along the banks of the Danube river had to be reinforced by two-meter concrete foundations that would support the colossal building, which is 268 m long .and 123 m wide and has 10 inner courtyards, 27 portals and 29 steps. The facade of the building is decorated with lacy Gothic pointed towers and 88 statues representing Hungarian princes and colonels. The facade on the Danube side is dominated by a continuous line of arcades with Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance motifs.
