Kungsparken was created between in the end of 1860s on land that was previously part of Malmö Castle's defense complex, but when the locals no longer needed in the middle of the 19th century, people thought about how to use the open area near the old town.
Kungs Park was officially opened to the public in 1872. This is the largest and oldest park in Sweden. It is located in the old part of the city, connected to the main attractions of the city via a pedestrian path. What makes Kungsparken unique is its collection of rare and old woods and plant species.
During the summer period, the park turns into a place for cultural events during the "Samarsen" festival.
