Oxford is a city and the administrative center of the county of Oxforshire, a region in South-East England, located along the river Thames. The population of the city is about 140,000 inhabitants. The city is known as the seat of Oxford University - one of the oldest and most famous universities in the world. Founded in the 13th century, it turned into one of the most important scientific centers in Europe. Oxford is also known for the large number of buildings whose towers watch over the city. Besides the numerous towers, among the most famous sights are the churches "St. Michael" and "St. Mary', the Bodleian Library, the Sheldon Theater and others.
