The new residence in Munich is a complex of buildings and courtyards used by members of the Wittelsbach dynasty during most of their five-century rule of Bavaria. There are 130 rooms in the complex. Each of them reflects a different style and era. The most impressive for visitors are the Antiquarium (hall of antiquities), the richly decorated chapel from the 17th century, the wealth of family jewelry, the Rococo and Neoclassical halls with rich painting collections. Like most buildings in Munich, the Residence was destroyed during World War II, but has since been restored to its original form.
