
Nîmes is a city in Southern France and stretches over 160 square kilometers. In the past it was one of the richest and most sophisticated Roman cities in Gaul. Today in Nîmes and around it you can visit the remains of some Roman buildings. Such are the elliptical amphitheater, built in the 1st or 2nd century. It is the best preserved Roman arena in France. The cathedral of Nîmes is of mixed architecture - part Roman, part Gothic. A modern landmark that deserves attention is the art museum.
