Mojacar is a city in the region of Almeria, Spain. The city has been inhabited since the Bronze Age and was ruled by Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans and Moors in the past. During the time of Muhammad I, the city became part of the influence of the Nasrids. In the 14th century, they built defensive fortresses, which were supposed to help them in their defense against the Christians. Due to the long rule by Moors and Phoenicians, Mojacar looks more like a Moroccan city than a tourist resort.
The population of the city is about 7 thousand inhabitants and it is located at 152 meters above sea level.
