The royal shipyard was built in Gothic style in the period 1283-1328, at the insistence of the royal court of Catalonia and Aragon. Over the centuries, some of the largest boats were made at this place. Opened in 1941, the museum has expanded every year to become one of the largest in the world. Today, a breathtaking collection of sailing vessels, models, drawings, navigational instruments, figures from the prows of ships, as well as a life-size reproduction of John of Austria's royal gallery are on display here.
