Monopoli is a relatively small coastal town located 40 km south of Bari. Monopoli is a charming combination of a romantic old port, beautiful beaches and historical sights.
Тhe fortress of Carlo V, which was completed in 1522 in a pentagonal shape for the purpose of defense, appelas to visitors. It is also known because of its fame as a prison until 1969.
The baroque cathedral of Santa Maria della Madia is remarkable as well, which was completed in the 15th century. Its interior impresses with the red, yellow, white and green marbles that form the iridescent figures.
