Mytilini is the capital of the island of Lesvos and the administrative center of the North Aegean region. It is located in the southeastern part of the island and has a population of about 36,000 inhabitants. 

Aristotle lived in the city in 337-335 BC after becoming the teacher of Alexander the Great. Julius Caesar conquered Mytilene in 80 BC, and Apostle Paul visited the city in 50 AD. Today, the main town of the island of Lesvos can be seen the Church of Saint John Therapon, the old amphitheatre, the Yeni Mosque and the Justinian Fortress.
