
The city of Messolonghi is the center of the Aetoloakarnania region and is located on the Gulf of Patras in the Ionian Sea. The city is known for its heroic struggle during the uprisings of 1821. The city is also home to the largest lagoon in Greece, where picturesque are protected. The lagoon is home to over 280 species of birds and various types of fish, which is one of the reasons why a large part of the local population is engaged in fishing.
Vaux Messolonghi is the burial place of Lord Byron.
In the center of the city you can see a wonderful park of the revolutionaries.
