In the recent past, Marmaris was a small fishing village, known and visited only by sailors who traveled the Mediterranean coast. The history of the city actually dates back to 3400 BC. The first settlers in this area were called Carians, followed by Egyptians, Syrians, Romans and Byzantines, Seljuks and Turks. Preserving the wonderful nature, combining in one sea, forest and mountain, from the 70s onwards, Marmaris gradually began to turn into a tourist paradise. The resort is known for its many hotels, excellent infrastructure and nightlife on "Bar street".
