
The city is located in the Lombardy region of Italy with a population of about 50 000 inhabitants. This is a city with natural and cultural heritage, which is rich with many historical monuments and works of art. Between the 14th - 18th centuries, Mantua was ruled by the principality of Gonzaga. Their palace Palazzo Ducale is remarkable, with over 500 rooms, 15 courtyards and rich decoration.
Mantua was the Italian Capital of Culture in 2016 and in 2017 the European Capital of Gastronomy (together with Bergamo, Brescia and Cremona). In 2007, the old town of Mantua was declared a UNESCO cultural and historical heritage site.
