Panagia Faneromeni Monastery is the most important religious center on the island of Lefkada. It is located on a ridge above the main town of the island and offers a wonderful view of the bay and the town of Lefkas. It was built in 1634 on the site of an ancient temple dedicated to the goddess of hunting Artemis. The current form of the monastery was obtained in the 19th century. In the monastery complex there is a church museum where you can see rare Byzantine icons and ancient manuscripts.
