Lorca is the municipality with the largest area in Spain. There is the famous "Lorca" castle, as well as the Saint Patrick's Church. In the past, the city was the border between the Christian and Muslim parts of Spain. Due to its location, the city was conquered by Muslims many times over the years.
At the beginning of the 20th century, thanks to the intensive mineral exploration of the coastal zone, the city's economy began to recover. Today, people in the city are mostly engaged in agriculture, animal husbandry, pottery and leather processing.
