
Xanthi is a city in northeastern Greece. It is located in White Sea Thrace, at the foot of Mount Rouen, part of the Rhodopes. The old Bulgarian name of the city is Tsareva and it is a mix of the main cities of the historical region of Western Thrace. The population of the city is 65,000. In 1891, the first railway station in the area was built, which led to continued economic development and the establishment of schools and the flourishing of trade. The city is rich in history and traditions. It is known for the carnival that is organized every spring. It is visited by many people every Saturday because of the market that opens then.
