After the great earthquake of 1693, most churches and palaces in Sicily were renovated in Baroque style, such is the case with the Cathedral of St. George, which is located in the heart of the old town of Ragusa Ibla, Sicily. The magnificent cathedral was reconstructed in 1738 by the architect Rosario Galliardi.
The architectural building has a neoclassical dome, Corinthian columns and light glass windows. The cathedral is reached by an impressive external staircase, and the entrance gate is in Gothic style. There are many paintings and sculptures in the building, one of which is Saint George on a horse. It is brought out to the city on the feast of Saint George - the last week of May. The cathedral is the most visited tourist attraction - a real masterpiece of baroque art. She is the pride and joy of Ragusa.
