Катедралата „Сан Лоренцо”

Џенова, Италија

The "San Lorenzo" Cathedral in Genoa dates back to the 5th-6th century, when a church dedicated to Archbishop San Siro was built here.

The researches found in the foundations of the church and under the square remains from Roman times, as well as pre-Christian sarcophagi, which implies the existence of a cemetery in this place. Later, the new cathedral was built on the site of the first church. She was consecrated by Pope Gelasius II in 1118, and in 1133 she received the rank of archbishop. After a fire in 1296, the church was restored.
