The Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Pilar is Zaragoza's cathedral. This is a Catholic church built on the site of an ancient Roman forum. The construction of the current spacious building began in 1681 in the Baroque style by order of the Spanish King Carlos II. A large part of the frescoes in the altarpiece is the work of Francisco Goya. During the Spanish Civil War, 3 bombs fell on the church, but none exploded.
