The Cathedral of Our Lady of Murcia is the only functioning Roman Catholic church in Murcia. The church was started in 1394 by King Jaime I and was finished in October 1467. The remains of King Alfonso X are buried under the main altar of the cathedral. The artistic style of the building is very diverse because it was completed in the 17th century. The interior of the church is Gothic, the facade is Baroque and was made by a Valencian architect.
The bell tower, built between 1521 and 1791, is 90 meters high and 95 meters wide, making it the largest bell tower in Spain. The bells are 25 in number and each has its own name.
