Кавала

Кавала, Грција

Kavala is a city in Northern Greece, the most important port in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. The old names of Kavala are Neapolis and Christopolis.

The surroundings of Kavala have been inhabited since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the remains of ancient settlers found in the eastern outskirts of the city.

Neapolis, which was a colony of Thassos, sprang up on the peninsula on the site of today's old city of Panagia. This place has great strategic and commercial significance, because it stands on the road connecting Macedonia and Thrace.
