Erice is a holy mountain town, located at 751 m above sea level, on the island of Sicily. The first settlers on the lands of today's city of Erice were the Elymites, who lived from the 15th to the 8th century BC. They had a fertility cult and offered riches in the temple of their goddess.
The town is not very populated, especially during the winter, but as the summer comes, many tourists are attracted by the beauty of this town. Most of the buildings have beautiful balconies, sculpted with medieval and baroque ornaments. The main gate of the city - Porta Trapani, dates back to the 14th century and was built by the Normans.
One of the most famous churches is Chiesa Matrice from the 14th century, which impresses with its bell tower. In the central Umberto I square is the Municipality with the Krodici Museum, where objects dating back to several eras are exhibited. There are many pastry shops that offer local sweets close to Piazza San Domenico.
