Езерото Кимзее

Германија

Lake Chiemsee is a freshwater lake located in Bavaria, Germany. It is divided into two parts: northeastern - called Weitzee and southwestern - Inselsee. Like many other high mountain lakes, Kimsee was formed by glacial activity. The surface of the water basin is about 80 km. sq., which makes it the largest lake in Bavaria and the third largest in Germany.

There are three islands in the lake: Hereninzel (238 hectares), Fraueninzel (15.5 hectares) and Krautinzel (3.5 hectares). The uninhabited Krautinzel (Mac. Cabbage Island) was planted with vegetables and mostly cabbage in the Middle Ages.

On the island of Hereninzel is located the well-known palace of Ludwig II, an exceptional copy of the Palace of Versailles. On the small island of Fraueninzel there is a nunnery whose nuns produce a special liqueur as well as luxurious marzipan.
