Egypt's pharaohs expected to become gods in the eternity and to prepare for the next world, they built massive pyramid tombs for themselves.
The earliest pyramid dates from 2630 BC. and it was called the Djoser pyramid, the architect of the pyramid and the complex that surrounded it was Impotep. The most famous pyramids are located in Giza, they are also one of the largest buildings ever built. The pyramid of Heps is the largest pyramid, it is interesting that it is part of the "Seven Wonders of the Ancient World" and of all the wonders it is the only one that has survived to this day.
