Smyrna is the ancient Greek name of the modern city of Izmir. It is a city in Southwest Turkey, the third largest in the country and the second largest port after Istanbul. It is considered one of the most liberal cities, which has preserved its values, ideology, appearance and style, dynamism and important roles in political and economic aspects. Historically, Izmir has existed for more than 3,500 years. Ancient Smyrna was one of the most developed cultures in Anatolia in its time. The most important sanctuary of Ancient Smyrna was the temple of Athena, partially renovated today. The oldest ruins preserved to this day date from 725 - 700 BC.
