The palace was built during the reign of the Neapolitan king Carlos III de Bourbon and construction began in 1752. Completed in 1845, the estate can even be compared in beauty to the Palace of Versailles. A silk factory was also built in the grounds of Caserta. The royal gardens cover an area of over 120 hectares and are divided into two main parts - the Italian and English gardens. The English garden aims to recreate the "natural chaos" of spoiled nature.
In 1996, the "Caserta" palace was registered as a UNESCO world and cultural heritage site. It is often used for the set of a number of Hollywood films, such as "Interstellar Wars", "Mission Impossible" and others.
