Dar al-Maqhez is the official residence of the King of Morocco. The new building was built in 1864 on top of an old palace that was destroyed. Spread over 80 hectares, the palace is a large complex and is not open to the public. In the complex, in addition to the guardians and their families, there are also: a school for the members of the royal family, a culinary school and a library on the ground floor, built to preserve the manuscripts of Hassan II.

Although the palace is the official residence of the king, he does not spend much time in it because he often travels.
