Град Мекнес

Мекнес, Мароко

Meknes is a city in central Morocco. It is one of the four royal cities, as well as the sixth most populous in the kingdom. It was founded in the 11th century by the Almoravid dynasty as a military village. Meknes became the capital of Morocco during the reign of Sultan Moulay Ismail from 1672 to 1727. Sultanot constructed the city in the Spanish-Moorish style, surrounded by high fortresses, with large gates, where the harmonious blend of the Islamic and Muslim styles of the 17th century is still present in the Maghreb. The city has a population of about 623 thousand inhabitants.
