
Istaxihuatal is an active stratovolcano in the vicinity of Puebla, Mexico. At 5,426 meters high, the volcano is the second highest peak in Mexico after Pico de Orizaba and the fifth highest in North America. Until 2011, Istaxihuatal was one of three volcanoes with glaciers in Mexico. The last eruption of the volcano was in 2004. Istaxihuatal can be translated as "smoking mountain".
