
Wexford is a port city in the south-eastern part of Ireland, in the province of Leinster. The main administrative center is the eponymous county of Wexford. It is located on the coast of the Irish Sea around the mouth of the River Slaney. It was founded by the Vikings around 800. It has a railway station, which was put into use on August 17, 1874. Its population is about 10,000, and with the surrounding places it reaches 18-19 thousand inhabitants. The Wexford Opera Festival has been held every year in October over a period of 3 weeks for over 50 years. This is one of the most important opera festivals in the country.
