Cannes is one of the most elegant cities on the French Riviera with a population of around 70,000. The old town, over which rise the towers of the Caen cathedral and the old castle, is located on a steep mountain slope. A picturesque bay surrounds the new supermodern city. Here, the most beautiful buildings are along the coastal boulevard Croisette, immersed in lush tropical vegetation. Among them is the "Carlton" hotel, where world-famous film stars stay during the film festival. From here they are met by limousines to reach the Festival Palace in the center of the city.
