The Basilica of Sant' Andrea is an excellent example of Italian Renaissance architecture. It was assigned to the architect Leon Battista Alberti in 1472 by Ludovico III Gonzaga - Marquis of Mantua, and construction continued for nearly three hundred years.
The Holy Blood is saved there, brought to Mantua in 37 AD. from the Roman warrior Longinius - a witness to the Crucifixion of Christ.
