The city of Basel is located in the northwestern part of Switzerland, near the border with Germany and France. It is located along the banks of the Rhine River, which divides it into "small" and "large" Basel. The city has a population of just over 170,000.
Basel is considered one of the most important cultural centers in Switzerland. In the Old Town there are preserved buildings of historical, architectural and cultural significance, such as the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral, the municipality, the city gate and the church "St. Pavel".
