The ancient town of Kaunos is located near a picturesque 6 km long beach. Bordered by the sea on one side and a lake on the other, and known as a breeding ground for the rare Caretta turtles. The historic port city of Kaunos is famous for the tombs of the Lycian kings. In the ancient period, the city was of great importance in the area, had a port and was closely connected with trade. If the old legends are to be believed, this city was built by one of the Miletos twins, named Kaunos. The city was located on the border between Cyria and Lycia. Sculpted from huge horizontal rocks, the Lycian tombs are the result of inhuman labor and surprising skill.
