
Amecameca is a city in Southeastern Mexico. The first settlers were residents of the Totolimpaneka tribe around 1286. In 1465, the Aztecs conquered the area and began collecting taxes from the local residents in the area. The town obtained the status of a municipality in 1824. Amecameca is a famous tourist town with about 50,000 inhabitants, also every year a traditional carnival dedicated to the Aztecs is held in the town.
