Алмерија

Almeria is a city in Eastern Spain. The city was founded by Abd-ar-Rahman III, of the Korodob Caliphate in 955, as the main port of his rule and to strengthen his power in the Mediterranean. After the collapse of the caliphate, Almeria became an independent kingdom. The silk trade and industry developed. The city was later contested between the emirates of Granada and Valencia and became the scene of many sieges. In a short time it was freed by the troops of Alfonso VII in October 1147, after less than ten years the Muslims took it back. On December 26, 1489, the Spanish finally conquered it, when Almeria surrendered to the armies of the Catholic monarchs Isabella I and Fernando II.
