Ното

Ното, Италија

Noto is a city and municipality in Southern Italy in the province of Syracuse. It is inhabited by about 25,000 inhabitants. Noto is perhaps the most beautiful baroque town on the island of Sicily. The city was rebuilt after a strong earthquake, which in 1693 destroyed the city to its foundations. The city was divided into two parts - southern and northern.

The southern part was reserved for the patricians, and the northern part for the common people. The streets of the city, seen from above, look like a dense network, and on the hills there are palaces built with interestingly decorated arches. In honor of Ferdinand II's visit to the city in 1838, the Reale gate was built, which is in the style of Roman arches. Piazza Municipio is the most beautiful square in Sicily. In the vicinity of the square you can see the Cathedral from 1776, Palazzo Ducezio - home of the prominent aristocratic family, the Church of San Carlo, which was built by Gallardi in 1730.

The biggest landmark in the north is Santissimo Crocefiso. The churches of Santa Maria del Arco and Carmine can be seen along the main street.
