Smolyan

Smolyan is a town in Western Rhodope mountains at 1035m altitude. Smolyan is one of the longest towns in Bulgaria (approx. 25 km) because of its linear development on one of the banks of the river Cherna. The town preserves and develops the traditions with organizing different cultural events like the national folklore congregation Rozhen and in the distant 1960 in Smolyan was created Ensemble for folklore songs and dances "Rhodopa". The ensemble had many international honors. Fifteen km away from Smolyan is the winter resort Pamporovo and 20 km away from the town is the architectural and folklore reserve Shiroka Laka.
