Martello Tower

The Martello Tower is part of a defensive structure built in the early 19th century during the British Empire. Its round shape and thick solid masonry walls made it resistant to cannon fire, while its height of 12 meters provided an ideal platform for a single heavy artillery piece mounted on the flat, 360-degree rooftop.

Some of the towers were also equipped with moats or additional batteries and structures for extra protection.
