Lake Natron

Lake Natron is a shallow, highly alkaline lake in northern Tanzania near the Kenyan border. It’s known for its striking red and orange colors, caused by salt-loving microorganisms. The lake’s harsh conditions can calcify animals that die there, giving it a surreal appearance, but it’s also an important breeding ground for flamingos.
